Q&A: can you help me name a single word that can explain a “pissing contest?”?

Question by T: can you help me name a single word that can explain a “pissing contest?”?
I have a hard time talking to my husband about things that bother me because it turns into what I call a “pissing contest.” I need help figuring out one word that can explain what a pissing contest is. Every time I try to express my feelings no matter what it is, he always has an answer for everything, or I’m wrong; [for example, if I say I would love for us to have more spontaneity in our life---he says , "well I make dinner most nights---isn't that good enough?"] so I’m just trying to understand all of this and work on things before they get out of hand… Thank you…

The words (I know you asked for 1) that I can think of are “ego” or “competition.”
